For now, I have decided not to rate the book, as much of Walzer s book is a sequel to his larger work Spheres of Justice Walzer here focuses on this distinction between thin morality, that is morality based on philosophical principles, and thick morality, morality informed by historical and cultural background Walzer s main argument is that the conventional idea that that thin morality creates thick morality is wrong, the overlap of thick moralities leads to thin morality That said, I can t help [...]

    2. Early in this book Walzer discusses a possibly apocryphal statement by Kafka that he felt at home in hotel rooms than he did at home At age 22, I identified very strongly with Kafka on this As I remember, Walzer didn t approve.

    3. I found this really helpful for the last chapter of my dissertation I like the explanation of thick thin norms i.e norms of greater and less specificity.
