    1. If you enjoy an old school western romance, this is a book you will like The Tender Texan has both a hero and heroine who are survivors They both have suffered tragedy and turmoil in their short lives I absolutely adored Chance He is a true, tough, fierce Texan, but he was also so loving and caring towards Anna Jodi Thomas knows how to write absolutely scrumptious heroes both incredibly loving and tender, but also formidable western heroes who know how to handle themselves and to take care of th [...]

    2. Rant to followQuit at 53% because there is nothing remotely likable about this heroine She is a total psycho bitch, and I have no clue why the hero wants her.She has done nothing but treat him like dirt She is one minute wanting him and making him think he has a chance then she s pushing him away She is basically abusing him and all he does is break his back to please her.The writing is also IMHO horrible There is a psychoticness about it Haphazard best descibes it I can t take the constant jumb [...]

    3. I m a HUGE Jodi Thomas fan and love her Historical Western Romance novels, but I m sorry to say that I had some problems with this heroine I m not without compassion and I do understand that Anna is carrying a tremendous amount of baggage when she first meets Chance Wyatt however, I would think after a year of living together as man and wife, she would ve let down her emotional walls Her behavior just doesn t add up or make any logical sense to me I found her moody behavior to be nothing short o [...]

    4. I really love Jodi Thomas I have never read a book by her that I did not enjoy However, I just could not finish this one.I believe this book is a horrific tale of one woman who has serious panic disorders after having been raped I sympathize with Anna s issues I like her very much as a person However, I could not believe that she was falling in love with Chance She continually treated him so poorly I understood the why of her behavior and I don t judge her for it but I just never saw love develo [...]

    5. The Tender Texan by Jodi Thomas.Anna Meyer has lost a husband and if she does not get another to help her take land that she and her husband were coming to live and improve to homestead, she will lose it She is pregnant and wants it for the child so much that she walks to a group of oilman and ask one to marry her many laughed and scoffed at her when she ask one to commit to a year and she would give him 100.Chance Wyatt thought she was so brave and he needed that money so offered to be the husba [...]

    6. It took me a long time to read this book I am not one to give up so I finished it even though I didn t want to Anna may have been the older woman but she sure didn t act like it Her temper tantrums and stubbornness , for lack of a better word, put me off She may have been beautiful but she sure acted stupid Chance was the reason I kept reading although he did get on my nerves too with the way he handled Anna Back in those days, a man didn t let a woman run roughshod all over him I understand the [...]

    7. This book was intense The summary just doesn t do justice to the story, it is a sweeping saga packed with every emotion under the sun I haven t read a tale so poignant in a long time, and I m surprised it isn t a popular book I think the title is kind of meh for me, it s too saccharine sweet and it makes you think you re picking up a cheap, poorly written romance novel, it hardly matches what resides in the pages and it took me awhile to actually pick up the book and read it for that very reaso [...]

    8. One of Jodi Thomas earliest works, perhaps Certainly not one of her best The protagonists relationship is filled with constant, meaningless turbulence as both characters blow hot and cold Thomas does know how to write an action filled western, and the romance was sweet at times almost in spite of itself At the same time, however, the conflict was silly from the beginning so you can imagine how I felt after three hundred pages of it The prose was a bit purple at times, and the final argument betw [...]

    9. I ve been hovering between giving this book a three and a four for a couple of days now It was just right on the edge between being a three and four and I just can t decide There were some things I really enjoyed about this book and some things that drove me crazy As for the things I loved nobody can write a western romance quite like Jodi Thomas There s just something about the way her books feel that transport me to another place and time I loved Chance as a hero and I loved the changing persp [...]

    10. I m sort of torn between 2 and 4 stars I loved the hero and he s why I m rating this at 4 stars.m He was fantastic Anna, the heroine, I didn t like very much For someone who s all about farming, all she did was cook Granted she s pregnant but still And I realize she had serious trust issues but up until the 67% point or so, if I was Chance, I d have walked away I also had problems figuring out how much the had passed between major events It read as if only a couple of weeks at times but then BAM [...]

    11. This book captured my attention, right from the beginning Anna, who is a widow, was abused and raped by her husband, still needed one to claim her land To a group of cattle drovers, she makes the offer of one hundred dollars, if one of them will marry her, and help her on her land for one year Chance Wyatt is the one who accepts her offer He needs the money for a very special reason As they make their way across dangerous territory, they learn new things about each other every day Chance, despit [...]

    12. My ThoughtsEven though I enjoy Jodi Thomas books, I found this one lacking It was not a favorite of mine It was also one of her earlier books, copyright 1991.To begin with the book was lengthy, and it became repetitious Especially with Chance having to prove himself over and over and over again While Anna on the other hand just needs to show up and be sweet, but, then all of a sudden she looses her temper over nothing, at least Chance doesn t know what he did that set her off yet again This beca [...]

    13. Please don t let the cheesy title put you off The Tender Texan is one of the best books I ve read this year Thomas manages to portray Anna s desperation without allowing her to become a victim of the woe is me syndrome She s strong, gutsy and terrified all at the same time which makes for some delicious conflict. The hero is younger than the heroine and when they first meet she thinks hes little than a boy Even though his youth works against him, Chance is willing to lay it all on the line to he [...]

    14. 3.5 stars. Some things I liked about this book The characters were both young and pretty likable Things I didn t like about this book there s quite a list The non stop action got old is that weird to say it felt like the last issue was barely solved before we jumped into another bout of bad luck It would have been fine, but the scenes felt rushed and I felt like it took away from getting to really enjoy the characters as they got to know each other Some of the stuff was really unbelievable, too W [...]

    15. I bought this book in an airport looking for something pleasant to read while I awaited my plane and then during the airflight This book provided me that enjoyment I would surely not call it a great literary achievement but for a historical romance, it fit what I was looking for As a bonus it had some very interesting Texas history about the settlement of Fredricksburg by German immigrants in the 1840 s Since that is close to where I live that gave it another element that appealed to me.

    16. Lots of other members have given a synopsis of this book, so I will forgo that What I really wanted to say is that THIS book is my absolute favorite romance novel of all time Every character is well developed, and the progression of the story is flawless If you re looking for a story to lose yourself in, this is the one to pick I ve probably read it once a year for 8 years and never tired of it Please read this book, you won t be sorry.

    17. I thought the hero and the heroine well matched for good character development Though at times I felt as if they constantly re hashed the same problems and argument with no progress made I especially liked the hero, who though sexually inexperienced, was self assured and take charge in life, protecting his own.

    18. It has been a few years since I read this but I remember liking it very much The most interesting thing about the story was the hero He was only 19 or so if I remember correctly which is such a young age for a romance hero to be Refreshingly different I think Jodi Thomas did a great job with it.

    19. I enjoyed the give a little taste and take it all back romance between Chance and Anna, and the history of the area The detail made me feel like I was there like a fly on the wall What a great story teller.

    20. An outrageous proposal starts the main characters off on a bumpy ride, with life and death situations along the way in this historical romance A well written, character driven story that kept me turning the pages Recommend

    21. This is a sweet, romantic historical read about a Texan named Chase and the woman he marries in a business like agreement, Anna They re an unlikely pair who grow to trust and love each other after a few false starts I loved this book.

    22. First time with this author Very good plot and very well written Not overly rosily romantic, but just enough to make it a good story and keep the tension ramped up.Lightly flavored with the difficulties of German immigration to Texas in the 1800 s

    23. Jodi Thomas always comes through with great stories This book was great from page one I had a hard time putting it down Recomnmend.

    24. Another great Jodi Thomas book Chance was so sweet he s an amazing hero I do love a good marriage of convenience pregnant widow story.

    25. I must have read this when it came out forever ago, but Thomas s plots tend to run together for me Angst and Texas Not fab, but not bad if you like her books.

    26. Keeps you coming for This book was amazing I couldn t put it down There were so many surprises yet it was not overwhelming A very good read

    27. This is one of my favorites Sweet love story about two survivors and their unlikely marriage One of Jodi Thomas s best stories.
