    1. This is a great book, and it could be a great movie.I was first drawn to Galdir, because it reminded me of the movie, Gladiator This book focuses on Germania than Rome Galdir follows Sextus through different phases slave, warrior and Warlord After Sextus kills his master for trying to rape a girl, he flees to the countryside, befriending Cornelius and his niece, Livia Sextus and Livia fall in love, but she is murdered by enemies Cornelius and Sextus journey to Germania, intending to discover Se [...]

    2. Fredrik Nath s book Galdir A Slave s Tale is an amazing book set in time of Roman Empire It is enthralling historical fiction full of brutal battles and conflicts, but also mystical prophecies and love Book is about a Roman slave destines to be a Barbarian Warlord, divided in two parts, or books as author calls them.In the first part, entitled Slave, in the time of Marcus Aurelius and his brother, a young Roman slave named Sextus is introduced As he fled Rome, he begun his journey to find out th [...]

    3. If you re looking for an adventurous, suspenseful, and interesting book, I would highly recommend Galdir A Slave s Tale by Fredrik Nath Although I don t know much about ancient Rome, it was still a wonderful world to get sucked into Following Sextus from his lowly beginnings as a slave to a Roman master to accepting his true name of Galdir and his position in the Frankish army, it was always an exciting trip It was interesting to read the story and feel like it spanned thousands of years, becaus [...]

    4. One of the highest compliments that I can pay a book is to look for other books by the same author and in the same series as soon as I finish the book I did this with Galdir not because the ending was unsatisfying but because I wanted to linger longer in the world created by Fredrik Nath We are all familiar with the massive, powerful Roman Empire, but other than the story of the beginning of Christianity, the focus is almost always on the incredible lifestyles led by the Romans, the romance of t [...]

    5. Not what you expect.I have to say that I went into Galdir as a read with certain expectations The title led me to expect a tale of a Roman slave who had somehow become independent and the struggle that would ensue Such was entirely the case but only for the opening sections of the book. What Galdir is, in fact, is the tale of a German Frankish captive, freed from slavery by his own hand going in search of his birthright, claiming it and then turning upon his former captors Plot wise I will say no [...]

    6. I had trouble making up my mind about this book At times I really, really enjoyed it and at other times I struggled In the end I give it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.So, what makes the book so good First, I like the perspective I ve read many historical fiction books from this period the Roman Empire from roughly 30 BCE to 200 AD Almost without fail all of those books have been from the perspective of the Romans Galdir takes the perspective of an escaped German slave who respects Rome s power but h [...]

    7. Written in 2 sections, Slave and Warlord, Galdir is the life s story of a man, who at an early age became a slave, and the journey his life became because of his actions.Remembering how his mother was raped, his anger continued to grow as he continually saw his master raping young girls One day, he could take it no longer as he listened to a young girl screaming during her rape, and he beat and murdered his master.Fleeing from Rome and everything he knew, with the help of a barkeep named Flavius [...]

    8. An epic tale of adventure from slavery to the warlord of the Franks Dissapointing end however with much left unexplained.

    9. A slave on the run, a mysterious tattoo, a young man embarks on a journey of personal discovery from slave to warrior In this instance, Roman slave Sextus finds his true destiny as a Frankish Germanic hero Galdir Well written and well researched, rich in detail, and told from a non Roman perspective. The premise reminded me of Spartacus or event recently, Gladiator.

    10. Highly Commended in the Yeovil Literary Prize 2011 A Roman slave with a serpent tattoo uncovers his true barbarian identity A battle for power among Frankish warlords leads to a mass exodus across the Rhine All the while, Marcus Aurelius Roman army pushes further north, changing everything These seemingly unrelated events meet in a cataclysm that alters the course of history In the background, the ageing witch Chlotsuintha predicts it all Or is she the one pulling the strings to shape her people [...]

    11. Thrilling and informative tale of a slave s return to his roots Not my usual cup of tea, I had thought, but as a fan of historical novels I found this very enjoyable, and learned much about the campaigns of Marcus Aurelius against the Franks.Although generally well written, it would benefit from some minor editing and proofreading Punctuation is sadly lacking, and the narrative jumps forward in time in places, making it a little difficult to follow Otherwise, a fantastic book, and I will certain [...]

    12. Great story Had this book been written by anyone else, I would not have given it a second look The Roman Empire era has never interested me I love Mr Nash s WW2 stories though so seems I have now acquired a taste for the Roman Empire.

    13. Great StoryThe author has captured the essence of Roman invasion of Germania and the troubled defense by the barbarians The characters are believable and the plot must be realistic The book is well written in all respects.

    14. Author shows flashes of talent talent but on the whole mediocre story, mediocre writing style I did like Galdir, who goes back from slavery in Rome to his tribe, the Franks.
