    1. I finished this novel last night and it was fairly good I had hoped the story would be about Russia and the time of the revolution, which it is at the beggining, but the story spans about 40 years and Lydia ends up living in England for most of her life The pace is slow, with long narratives so if this isn t your cup of tea, then maybe you should pass If you do enjoy a story that develops slowly and takes you on a journey of sort, then you should enjoy it There is love and plenty of tragedy, an [...]

    3. For the first time, I checked out an audiobook from the library It was a risky book, as I didn t read anything about it the only attraction was the clear Russian word Kirilov As an admirer of the Russian language and country, it seemed the perfect choice.Beginning this book with no expectations, I was quickly caught by the story and found it hard to turn the car off The reader had a gorgeous accent and, although I often disagreed with the way in which she read a sentence, I found her easy to lis [...]

    4. Right from the start, I couldn t get enough of this book It is, in my opinion, a cracking story from start to finish When four year old Lydia is orphaned by the Civil War following the Russian Revolution, she is adopted by an English diplomat After making an unwise marriage, she is abandoned in Ukraine, distraught because her baby has been taken from her At the start of WW2, she is rescued by Alex, a lifelong friend Many years later, after Alex s long imprisonment in Siberia and Lydia s second m [...]
